The Federal Way Junior Football Association was started in 1971, and has practiced here at Lakota Middle School since day one. FWJFA was once part of the South King County Junior Football League until 1997, when they, along with Kent, Auburn, SWAC and Benson, broke away to form the Puget Sound Junior football League. Cross over games soon followed, when Puyallup, Maple Valley and Enumclaw also broke from SKCJFL, and joined Sumner in forming the Cascade League, who play by the same rules that govern our league, thus making cross over games possible.

In the early years of the organization, each division had it's own mascot name, for example the Federal Way Wolverines (the 89er Champions in 1976), and late in the 1970s decided that we should all play under one mascot, the HAWKS!!!!! The cheer program became official 1976, under the first Cheer Director Lucy Ishmael. In the early 80's the Hawks purchased the trailer that would be their home until 2009, when due to renovations to Lakota had to be demolished.
We now have a traveling enclosed trailer that you commonly you will see at Lakota Park.

In 2013 the Hawks Broke away from the SPSJFL to join the Greater Puget Sound Youth Football League.   The GPSYFL has been a great move as the competetion is elevated to the commonly tough teams that the Hawks are used to producing.
